Let’s say you’ve got stuck with a technical issue. You ask your collagues around, no success. What will you do? You will Google it. The best resources you will see will be in English, mostly with an at least upper-intermediate level.
Or you will learn a design software which is brand new for the business and not much help materials yet. What will you do? You will seek official training or more Google it.
The first resources are always in english.
2- Prepare yourself for Sleepless Nights
We have this “Designer block” thing. When we break up a relationship, or sad, or occupied with some other unrelated thing, under chaos, or yet amateur, we get stuck.
A good designer would work on a professional design layout for at least for 3 hours. If you have a disturbing environment, let’s say a crowded busy office; there’s not much chance you can come up with great ideas and design thoughts. You are offered to postpone it for the silent and self peace moment.
Things are not always beautiful, you might find yourself struggling with a technical problem or a design idea, the work might take up to so many hours that would cause your night till morning. You are always free to give up, but the ones with passion don’t do that.
Sometimes to solve an issue, or to come up with a very good / successful result, and sometimes to feel comfortable with what the work turns out; good designers won’t sleep before they finish what they started.
Sometimes to be one of the real goods, there are going to be sacrifices to come.
3- Learn Theories and Principles before Practice
Jumping directly through “How to do this awesome effect? How to maket his image fade in fade out this like on that site? How do I do this glass effect?”. This is a common mistake juniors make.
Great designers are greatly creative because they can generate creative ideas. Not because they have a list of cool effect combinations in their minds. They know they do not do it fort he work to look sexy and kick ass, but to satisfy the target (deliver the message, sell the product, gain more client/population, increase credibility, etc…) audience.
There are 2 ways you can be called “the successful creative” in time. Either you have already good drawing skills (which will ease your productivity and sight of a creative view on your design works) and a mind helper guide you or have a really good imagination to generate winner ideas. Those who have both are the kickers.
