Life in San Francisco

You might have noticed that I haven’t blogged a long time. The reason behind me postponing the new stuff at Monofactor is that I have been busy at Udemy, the awesome online education startup which contracted me by Jan.

While originally living in Istanbul, Udemy crew needed me here in San Francisco for a couple months, giving me the chance to visit San Francisco for the first time and the amazing people in it. It’s only been a month, but I’ve already met so many kick ass people from the industry, not to mention the super stars in the office I work with at Udemy.

Monofactor Relaunched. Finally.

Wow, 3 years ha. Putting aside the sad fact that I’m getting older, it feels like yesterday when I published the 4th version back in 2009.

It’s funny how a web designer gets incapable of redesigning/updating his own website out of whatever reasons. But if you’ve been following me, you’d know that I have been really busy in the past 3 years. So busy there were times I could hardly allocate a moment to take dump. I kid you not.

Righteously, most of my blog readers started to poke me for when I will publish new stuff and follow ups of my articles.  Eventually, Monofactor’s delayed blog update periods and inactivity for too long did start to hurt me. After all, this site is like my other girlfriend.

And you can’t ignore a girlfriend for a long time, I mean not for 3 years. So baby, how about a fresh start?

2 Years No See. I Missed You

I’ve never been a good blog writer. When I launched this site back in 2004, I was releasing educational materials about visual communication and interaction design to better help my students in the institute.

The downside was, my local(Turkish) readers were not yet mature enough for my heavy academic content. I switched to writing in English, started giving away some nice stuff to see how that affects the site’s recognition and traffic and boom: Monofactor became a hit.

I wanted to keep feeding my visitors with fresh and valuable content, but always caught up with either my personal or commercial projects.

WordPress 2.7, Monofactor 2.9

Hah, gotcha!

Depending on the poll results, I know I told you that I wouldn’t change the previous design. But I did and I loved how it turned out.

For 2009, we will see this a little more corporate, less blog Monofactor. Of course that will not mean I will have less time for the blog.

Currently the site is in final beta, so please give it a couple of days to come together itself completely. Meanwhile, please let me know if you experience “404″s, browser bugs and anything you find crappy. Continue Reading →

Server Aftermath, Back on Track

After my server was doomed, I switched into another dedicated host and Monofactor is back alive at the moment.

As you also may have figured, my server had a crashdown last month. I tried restoring all the blog data but did not have a big luck with it.

So I’m readding my restored blog posts one by one, and new articles coming.

I’m sorry if you guys had “404″ errors trying to access into any content on my site.

Oh and, please wish me luck with new server; this is the 3rd time my visitors and I suffered from hosting services.

PS: Do NOT use Lunarpages for your hosting needs. Ever.
